The three-year modernisation of Bristol Palace is over. The multifunctional building has been inaugurated and offers apartments, offices and commercial space for rent. The renovation is the work of the development company Amadeus Real, which gave the historic building a second chance and created a place to live, work and play in the city centre.
Combining historic buildings and modern times
It is located on Dlouhá třída in the centre of the Prague 1 conservation area and after three years of reconstruction it brings new breath to the historic centre. In Palace Bristol you will find modern apartments, offices, but also commercial space and several underground garages. The old building has been transformed into a place that people can use to the full. Moreover, the entire renovation was carried out in careful consultation with conservationists, who ensured that the historical value was preserved and that the original features were sensitively restored.
Once a hotel and the headquarters of a computer centre
The original construction of the building was completed in 1899, according to the designs of architect Miroslav Stöhr. The Bristol Hotel was thus created, and in the 1930s it was merged with the neighbouring tenement house. After the Second World War, its functional use changed again and was continuously adapted to the needs of the tenants. The premises were used, for example, by employees of the computer centre. Later, underground garages were added, which are still available today.
And after more than 100 years, the Bristol name, which the building regained at the start of the renovation, is also making a comeback.
More environmentally friendly technologies
The property has undergone a thorough renovation, thanks to which it offers the comfort of 21. century. The contractors completely replaced the electricity, water, sewerage and heating systems and replaced the gas boilers with a central gas system. Air-conditioning units were also added and the original mullioned windows were replaced with new replicas for better heat retention. The Bristol building is both more modern and more environmentally friendly after the renovation. What’s more, by consulting with the conservation authority, the developers were able to correct mistakes made during earlier repairs.
